What is the difference between DVD and CD duplication and DVD and CD replication?
Our service is a disc duplication service which allows short-runs of color-printed discs to be produced with professional quality, as few as one per master, very quickly. This contrasts with DVD and CD replication, which is the process used for large runs of CDs or DVDs. Duplication uses CD-Rs or DVD-Rs which are encoded using laser-based burners, while replication stamps out CDs or DVDs using physical molds (called glass masters). Replication typically has a 500 unit per master minimum, requires manual set-up of glass masters and silk-screens with associated fees. DVD and CD replication is typically more economical than duplication when more than 1000 units are required. Depending on your cost-sensitivity and timefame, DVD or CD replication may be a better option. Contact us directly for questions about large orders.
Are CD-Rs and DVD-Rs lower-quality than glass-mastered discs?
No. We use high quality CD-R media which result in a product that is nearly
indistinguishable from a traditional glass-mastered disc. Very old CD readers and players sometimes have trouble reading CD-Rs
instead of CDs, but this situation is very rare. In terms of the data on the disc itself, there is absolutely no difference
between a CD-R and a CD in terms of sound quality or data integrity, they both contain exactly the same digital information
-
bits are bits!
Similarly, our DVD-Rs are professional quality discs with exceptional data integrity. Our DVD-Rs are compatible
with all computer-based DVD drives and most standalone DVD players.
